DIY: Family of 6 Passport Wallet Tutorial

It took me forever but I am finally getting around to making that family of 6 passport wallet. Thank you to everyone for being patient.

If you are wanting a family of 4 passport wallet tutorial check out this former post.

This wallet is very easy to make if you have already made the family of 4 wallet. We will just be adding in a few inches to this tutorial.

Supplies:

1/4 - 1/2 yard of the outer fabric (depending on your fabric design)

1/4 - 1/2 yard of lining fabric (depending on your fabric design)

1/4 yard of lightweight interfacing

4" of small elastic

1 button

water soluble marker

coordinating thread

Cut the following:

Lining Fabric:

A: 14.5" x 4.25"

B: 14.5" x 6.25"

C: 14.5" x 8.25"

Outer Fabric:

D: 14.5" x 8.25"

Interfacing:

E: 14.25" x 8"

1. Take piece A and fold down 1/2" on the 14 1/2" side. Iron crisp and sew down using a 1/4" seam allowance.

2. Take piece B and fold down 1/2" on the 14 1/2" side. Iron crisp and sew down using a 1/4" seam allowance. Pieces A and B should now look like this:

3. Place B on top of C. Mark a line with your marker 4 1/4" down from the edge you had just sewn. Sew across this line forming a pocket.

Pieces A and B/C should now look like this:

4. Place A on top of B/C. If needed, baste.

5. Iron E on the wrong side of D.

6. Stitch a button on the printed side of D. Sew the button 6" from the edge.

7. With right sides facing, lay piece D on top of ABC. Place your elastic in the middle of the 8 1/4" side, opposite of the placing of the button.

8. Using a 1/4" seam allowance sew around the perimeter leaving a 2" space for turning. Make sure to back stitch several times over the elastic.

9. Cut your corners and turn. Iron flat.

10. Top stitch around the entire perimeter using a 1/8" seam allowance.

11. We are going to be seperating our wallet in to 6 pockets now. Measure your wallet from side to side and divide that number by three. Everyone's sewing is a bit different. If you kept to the 1/4" seam allowance then your measurements should be 4 1/3 x 4 1/3 x 4 1/3. Mark a line after each measurement. You should now have 6 even pockets and it should look something like this:

If looking at this picture, you will fold the right side in half and then cover that fold with the left side. Fasten with your elastic.

Now fill it up and head to your wonderful destination!

  1. Someday I'll bust out my old Singer and you'll have to show me some basics. Last time I tried to use it, I broke the needle and haven't gotten it out since. I haven't sewn since 4H in middle school.

  2. Thank you so much for this tutorial. I am very happy that I found it. It is the perfect size for passports and boarding passes for my family of five. It was also quite easy to sew.
